Aksum, previously the centre of the Aksumite Empire, can be reached by plane or by road through the scenic Limalimo terrain, crossing the Tekeze Valley. Experience the ancient tombs of Aksumite Kings and Queen Sheba’s palace and bath. Aksum is the birthplace of Christianity in Ethiopia with archeological discoveries from the years 320 to be observed in the museum. The Obelisk (stele) of Aksum from the 4th century and 24 m tall, can be seen with other stele in the Northern Stelae Park In addition, you can visit the 17th Century Cathedral of St Mariam Zion built by Emperor Fasiledes of Gondar and the New Cathedral built in 1965 by Emperor Haile Selasie.
